Amalfi Coast Motor Yacht Charters
A motor yacht is the ideal choice for an Amalfi Coast charter vacation if you wish to cover all the great destinations of the Amalfi Coast and its nearby attractions in your itinerary. The primary advantage of motor yachts lies in their high speed, facilitating the ability to cover longer distances in a shorter time — a huge benefit given the number of great things to see on the Amalfi Coast.
On top of that, Motor yachts are often more comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. – A recent increase in size among top-tier motor yachts allows for the accommodation of larger groups of guests, along with the inclusion of amenities and luxuries previously uncommon on boats, such as generous water toy selections, multiple jetskis, open-air Jacuzzis, and much more.
Motor Yachts vs Sailing Yachts/Catamarans
As mentioned above, one of the big advantages of a motor yacht is its speed. Sailing yachts and Catamarans simply cannot compete with a modern high-speed motor yacht. This is an important factor to consider if wanting ultimate freedom to create a full charter itinerary encompassing all the things you wish to do.
To compare motor yachts, sailing yachts, and catamarans you really must look at their size in order to understand their benefits. For example, watch the video below to see space and speed comparisons made between luxury catamarans and luxury motor yachts.
Fuel Consumption
Another thing that should be considered when comparing types of yachts is fuel consumption, which is a factor that will greatly impact your overall charter cost. Here it is obvious that a sailing yacht will be the winner – granted that the weather conditions are good. Sailing Catamarans can be a good halfway, where both good sailing capabilities and efficient motors allow for handling more versatile weather. However, when getting into the larger category of yachts, motor yachts are often more fuel-efficient than large catamarans – due to their efficient single-hull design.
Stability and Onboard Comfort
It is also very important to consider onboard comfort when planning an Amalfi Coast yacht charter vacation – especially for first-time charterers who do not yet know how they will handle the seas. Sailing monohulls are stable when there is wind in the sails, BUT because of their hull design, they also tend to lean to one side, challenging onboard activities and possibly causing seasickness. When there is no wind, a monohull sailing yacht can be very unsteady. With their two hulls, Catamarans are much more stable, making the cruise more comfortable for everyone. Larger motor yachts with wide hulls are designed to give this same stability. Their high speed and larger size also help them cut through waves.
If you are in doubt about what type of yacht to charter for your vacation on the Amalfi Coast, talk to your broker. He/she will be able to help match a charter yacht to your exact preferences, ensuring that you end up with your ideal Amalfi Coast luxury yacht charter package.

When is the Best time for a Motor Yacht Charter on the Amalfi Coast?
The optimal season to charter a motor yacht along the Amalfi Coast spans from May to August. The seas are generally calm during these months, and there is almost constant sunshine and clear skies, with temperatures reaching the nineties. If you do not like the intense heat, it’s advisable to plan a yacht charter outside June, July, and August.
The summer months on the Amalfi Coast see minimal rainfall, ensuring uninterrupted on-deck enjoyment without concern for unexpected showers. Additionally, the Sorrentine Peninsula benefits from being quite sheltered from strong wind on both its northern and southern ends, promising a seamless cruising experience.
BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE
Ideally, you’d inquire about an Amalfi Coast motor yacht charter 12 months in advance. WHY? The best motor yachts are often fully booked long in advance and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead. Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter. Additionally, you might find that the motor yacht you want, can’t make it to the port where you wish to commence your yacht charter.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true archaeological marvel. Excavations reveal remarkably preserved streets, houses, and public spaces, offering a glimpse into daily life nearly 2,000 years ago.
Marinas on the Amalfi Coast for Motor Yachts
There are several marinas in and around the Amalfi Coast which cater to luxury motor yachts. The largest and most popular destination is Naples, where most Amalfi Coast yacht charters begin. In the smaller towns along the Amalfi Coast, many larger motor yachts may not be able to find a berth and will have to drop anchor out at sea and take a tender to shore. Luckily, this area of Italy enjoys relatively mild weather, allowing you to enjoy a calm and peaceful experience while at anchor.
Many charterers choose to begin and end their Amalfi Coast yachting vacation in Naples, but the region is situated in close proximity to Sardinia, Sicily, the Italian Riviera, and the superyacht hubs of the South of France and Monaco. Talk to your yacht charter broker if you wish to book a luxury yacht charter combining some of these destinations.
